Common leak sources
- Cracked, slipped or broken tiles
- Deteriorated ridge pointing
- Damaged or blocked valleys
- Flashings at walls and roof junctions
- Pipe, vent, skylight or antenna penetrations
- Corroded metal sheets or failed fasteners
- Roof-edge and gutter interaction
What the internal stain tells you
The timing, location and shape of a stain can narrow the search, but it does not prove the entry point. Wind-driven rain can also change the path between storms.
Do not climb onto a wet roof
Wet roofing is hazardous and storm damage may be unstable. Keep away from electrical hazards and sagging ceilings, photograph safely from the ground and arrange appropriate assessment.
